FDA Regulation of Tobacco Today- Healthy Hearts Tomorrow
We had a historic win in the fight against tobacco when the US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to give the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate tobacco products! Let your lawmaker know we’re watching! Send a message of thanks or disappointment depending on how they voted.

Dear Legislator:

I applaud the House of Representatives for voting to approve the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (S. 625/H.R. 1108), and, as your constituent, I want to thank you for your vote in favor of this life-saving legislation.

You are in good company, as 325 of your colleagues also chose to protect the health of Americans.

Smoking tobacco brings pain and suffering to millions of Americans and their families. Over 400,000 die every year because of diseases caused by tobacco use and of these, 150,000 die from cardiovascular diseases alone. Another 35,000 die from coronary heart disease caused by exposure to second-hand smoke. It is truly alarming that tobacco remains one of the most unregulated products in the U.S.A.

This legislation is a Prescription for a Healthy Heart that would save countless lives. It would prohibit the marketing of tobacco to children and ban candy-flavored cigarettes. It would require the tobacco industry to disclose the contents of the products they sell. And it would provide the FDA with the authority to require manufacturers to remove or reduce harmful ingredients in tobacco products.

Thank you for taking this opportunity to help ensure that this legislation becomes law. Please encourage your colleagues in the Senate to approve this bill before the end of this legislative session.

Thank you for voting to protect all Americans from a deadly tobacco addiction.
